Proverbs 31:24, 25 “She makes fine linen garments and leads others to buy them; she delivers to the merchants girdles (or sashes that free one for service). Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure. She rejoices over the future- the latter day or time to come (knowing that she and her family are in readiness for it)!”
Sometimes we wonder if we are a good enough mother, wife, and friend. Something happens and we feel good for awhile, then a day later something else happens and we begin to wonder again. God is saying strength and dignity are our clothing and our position is to be string and secure. Our position is who we are in God, not how we are as a wife, mother, friend or employee.
God wants us to have security and strength in Him, not in our functions. We cannot rely on feeling or what people say. Feelings go up and down; instead, we must understand what true security is. We are secure because of Jesus. Because He lives in us, He has called us, anointed us, given us His ability. That is where our security is. We are to have security in Jesus, and in what His word says about us, not in all of our actions. We are still supposed to be kind, thoughtful, and giving. Those things follow the security that we have in Jesus. We have to base our security on what God says, because if we base our security on some of the things that have been said to us then we can feel very insecure and unwanted.
The verse continues on to say, “strength and dignity are her clothing.” What does the word strength mean? Strength is the power to resist strain or stress. As mighty women of God, we are to have strength as our clothing. We are blessed to be able to draw our strength from Him any time we need it. God has an unlimited amount, but if we don’t reach for it, if we don’t take it, then it just sits there. Sometimes in our lives we feel like stress is overtaking us, but if we would look at the situation through our “spiritual eyes,” we would see the wicked, demon spirits that are coming against us. That is when we need to take authority over it and fight it in the spiritual realm.
God says to put on the whole armor of God, so He can help us. We have to do our part in asking God, in putting on the armor of God, in operating God’s way, instead of in the natural realm.
If we don’t see our worth, no one else will either. We have to recognize that person that you are. When we have an attitude of dignity about ourselves, people don’t ridicule us or put us down. We can never give a person honor and their rightful place in respect if we don’t have it for ourselves. The reason we compete is we don’t esteem ourselves. We never have to compete against anybody when we feel good. When we have dignity in ourselves, we feel good about who we are and we’re self-confident. These are characteristics that we have to develop in ourselves and make the decision to continue to work on.
We do not have to live in fear. We have a false sense of security sometimes because we put our security in our husband, career, finances or relationships. We think they can save us. The truth is those things can’t always save us. So, our trust has to be in God’s word. We each have to challenge fear and tell it that it cannot win in our life.
As virtuous women, we have to overcome so many things in our lives. We speak the word and make it happen. We can take charge of our future and we can rejoice over it. Don’t look at the past and dwell on your failures. If it was a good past, then just pick up the good and leave the bad. We have hope and faith in our future, not distrust and fear. God’s Word has been placed in us to warn away fear. I live off the truth that God’s Word is a lamp unto me and that God’s Word is my safety. It warns away fear, doubt and distrust. I am going to walk in this truth. How about you?
